About The Research School of Earth Sciences

Since January 2008 the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) incorporates the former Department of Earth and Marine Sciences of the Faculty of Science and now provides teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and higher degree research programs within a world-class institution. The Research School now has two locations. The main administration and much of the research facilities are housed in the Jaeger Building (Building 61), but teaching activities are concentrated at the D.A. Brown Building (Building 47) about 10 minutes away by foot.

ANU Geosciences has been rated as the top university program in Australia and in the top ten of its class in the world.  RSES is a leader in research into the physics, chemistry, material properties and environmental conditions of the Earth. RSES offers a variety of opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. We also provide great research projects, with well-supported scholarships for living expenses and travel opportunities.

The Research of the School is directed towards understanding the nature of the Earth and its environment, and is organised through four main research areas, Earth Chemistry, Earth Environment, Earth Materials & Processes & Earth Physics.  Many research themes link members of the different areas, building on strong discipline strengths to provide a powerful inter-disciplinary approach as indicated on our Research pages.
