The Neptune MC-ICPMS and laser sampling cell. The Neptune Multicollector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS) combines the ability of the Inductively-Coupled Plasma to efficiently ionise most elements, with the precision isotope ratio measurement of a multicollector mass spectrometer. This capability opens the door to the study of isotope systems other than those traditionally used in addressing earth science problems. Additionally, when combined with an Excimer laser microsampling system the Neptune MC-ICP-MS enables the study of in situ isotopic systematics of a wide range of elements within a solid sample. |
