Finnigan MAT 251 IRMS equipped with a Kiel

Currently the labs contain two high precision stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers, off line water equilibration, carbon combustion and carbonate extraction lines and on-line EA and microcarbonate /water preparation systems. Over the past twenty-five years, they have grown to become a hub about which the paleo-climatic research program at RSES pivots.

The laboratories support multiple studies of geological, atmospheric and biochemical processes taking place at the Earths surface.

One of the mass spectrometer laboratories houses a Finnigan MAT 251 IRMS equipped with a Kiel Carbonate Device and 24 sample multiport. The laboratory averages about 8000 high precision microcarbonate analyses per annum and supports the programs of more than twenty researchers annually.
