There is no permanent water supply on the island
The only water supply is rain water stored in tanks

station is on an outcrop of uplifted coral
SITE ACCESS
Boats
PMV boats are fairly frequent from Wewak to Koil and many islanders have banana boats
Boats depart from beach opposite Wewak post office
Margaret Hayward at Airport Lodge, knows local charter operators who charge reasonable rates
K150 to Koil one-way charter
The site is 10-15 minutes walk through gardens up to a small knoll. Local villagers can assist with locating the mark.
The earlier station AA638, the Australian Army mark (brass plaque on cement peg) is nearby, but has been disturbed, and cannot be used.

Solar panels are really essential
Some generators exist on the island, but fuel is a major problem

Tent is required for receiver
Accommodation
Village accommodation is available, David can arrange billeting

None required
Labour
Local islanders can assist, rice, kerosene and trade goods are greatly
appreciated in exchange.
Communications
radio or satellite phone essential, due to the lack of regular
transport and improbability of phone services.
Adverse conditions
Isolation and snakes (wear gaiters and take precautions + anti-venom
if available)
