Absolute Gravity: FG5#237

The new absolute gravimeter operating at Mt Stromlo - FG5#237.

Through the AuScope program RSES has acquired a Micro-g LaCoste FG5 absolute gravimeter. The FG5 gravimeter operates by measuring the free fall of a corner cube in a vacuum chamber using a highly stable laser interferometer and a Rubidium clock. It is capable of 2-3 microgal accuracy in 24 hour site occupations. The FG5 will be used initially for monitoring the stability of core benchmarks across the Australian continent, providing reference points for ties to sea level monitoring stations and for instrument calibration.
