Bright young minds preparing for Science Olympics

Thursday 12 January 2017

Ninety secondary school students are participating in the Australian Science Olympiad Summer School held at the ANU. The students work schedule is intense and covers the equivalent of first year university studies in biology, earth and environmental studies, chemistry and physics. RSES is hosting the Earth and Environmental Science team. During the two weeks the students have an opportunity to connect with educators, geoscientists and other students who are passionate about science.

The team delivering the program are led by Greg McNamara and Leslie Almberg. It is wonderful to see many ANU graduates and current students involved in this inspiring program including: Suzy Urbaniak (ANU 1998) and 2016 Prime Minister’s Award recipient for Best Science Teacher Award, Kate Holland (ANU 2012, current PhD candidate) and current PhB undergraduates and 2015 Olympiad alumni, Sacha Mann and Tim Hume.

At the completion of the course a final team will be chosen to represent Australia at the International Earth Science Olympiad which will be held in Côte d’Azur, France, 22-29 August.
