The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES,ANU) and the School of Earth and Space Sciences (SESS Peking University) recently signed an agreement to encourage greater collaboration between staff and students.
“This is an exciting opportunity for some of the best Chinese undergraduate students to work with our scientists on a short intensive research project,” said Director of RSES, Professor Steve Eggins.
Since 2008, Dr Wei Tian from the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking Univeristy has been successfully collaborating with RSES academics including Prof Ian Campbell, Prof Trevor Ireland, Dr Yuri Amelin, Dr Mark Fanning and Dr Bin Fu. Many of these academics have tutored PhD students from PKU.Dr Wei Tien believes “the undergraduate internship will open a new era of our existing collaborations. I believe this program will help both our universities attract more excellent undergraduate students to our institutions.”
Professor Eggins hopes that this program will encourage some of the best Chinese students from PKU to consider applying to the PhD program at the ANU. “I also thank the donors to the Earth Sciences Future Fund who have generously supported this undergraduate scholarship.”
We look forward to welcoming the first recipient of the scholarship, Yankun Di, an undergraduate at PKU who will begin his research project at RSES.
