Mike's talk will cover the following topics:

  • A brief review of early work in USA, the Alps and Scotland.
  • The Alpine nappe model, folds and fold geometry; double and multiple fold geometry.

  • Fold sequences. Nappe structures in Australia and experimental work on deformation.

  • Geosynclines - a discarded concept? Suspect terranes, and oroclines.

  • The Plate Tectonic Saga; continental correlations, palaeomagnetism, ocean floor topography and magnetic reversals. Australia’s sea-floor magnetic pattern and northward movement.
