Launch of the Data Science Events

Thursday 14 September 2017

Following the recent Data Science survey of school staff and students, the RSES Data Science research theme members have organised a new series of weekly events starting Monday September the 18th. These are one hour sessions, each week alternating between a ‘Data Surgery’ and ‘Data Science Research Forum’.

The Data Surgery sessions

The Data Surgery sessions will consist of tutorials aimed at helping students and staff solve Earth science problems with existing data science tools. They aim at improving the awareness and competence of RSES PhD students of all ages in data science. The group will meet forthnightly with a focus on discussion and improving skills.

The Data Science Research Forums

The Data Science Research Forums will consist of a mixture of seminars, tutorials, and problem sharing about research in data science and application to the Earth sciences. The aim of this initiative is to foster inter-disciplinary exchanges of ideas that can lead to improving existing approaches and developing new tools for use in Earth sciences problems.

The events will take place on Mondays at 11:30 am, and are located in the Hales Seminar Room (Jaeger 7).

More information can be found on the program of the events, the RSES News and Events, and on the RSES Data Science webpage.

We look forward to seeing you during those events!
