Trevor Ireland

Professor Trevor Ireland from the Research School of Earth Sciences is interested in thinking back billions of years in time.

Trevor's research centres around the application of ion microprobes to the understanding of the isotopic nature of materials at the microscale. This type of technology allows analyses of materials with high degrees of selectivity and is applied to the characterization of provenance of dust grains in the early solar system, through to the provenance and origins of rocks from Gondwana.

Trevor is also on the Hayabusa II Joint Science Committee and is eagerly awaiting the return of the asteroid so he can begin further research.

The study of Earth and marine sciences is fundamental to our understanding of the precious balance of life on Earth and how the Solar System in which we live was formed. The Research School of Earth Sciences has many world leading researchers and offers undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as Higher Degree Research opportunities.
