RSES has hosted a workshop on the evolution of the Himalayan mountain belt.

Indian scientists from Jamia Millia Islamia University, University of Kashmir, and IIT Kharagput were present. The meeting is part of the three year project including staff and students from RSES.

The meeting considered the temporal evolution of the Himalayan orogenic belt, revised in the light of extensive dating conducted at ANU in the SHRIMP and Argon Geochronology facilities at RSES.

Remarkable coincidences in timing were noted over the 3000 km strike extent of the mountain belt.

The mini-conference took place at RSES on 8th April 2017. It was preceded by a field trip to the Cooma, Bega and Dromedary metamorphic and igneous complexes, on 5-7 April.
