Research interests

I am interested in upper mantle processes, in particular the melting of mantle rocks. My research focuses on reconstructing the depth and temperature of melt generation from the chemical composition of volcanic rocks. With the help of numerical modelling, I combine igneous geochemistry with thermodynamics, seismology, and geodynamics.

I have previously studied modern intraplate volcanic provinces, e.g. in the western US and northeast Brazil, to quantify dynamic topography and the interplay between lithospheric thickness and elevated mantle potential temperatures. Currently, I am investigating the ca. 500 - 2,000 Ma old volcanism of the North Australian craton. This work is part of a project at Geoscience Australia to assess lithospheric evolution, and its potential links to ore formation, through time and space.
