DATA EXAMPLES
A large amount of vertical component short period data
has been recorded by the SEAL array.
Three examples of high quality events that have been recorded by the SEAL array
are shown below.
Example 1: This example shows P wave arrivals
from a magnitude 9.0 event off the west coast of northern Sumatera, Indonesia (3.30 N,
95.97 E) which occurred at 00.58 on 26/12/2004. This large earthquake is often
referred to as the "Boxing Day Tsunami" event and resulted in the death of over
200,000 people.
Example 2: This example shows P wave arrivals from a magnitude 9.0 event north of Macquarie island (50.08S, 160.46 E) which occurred at 16.59 on 23/12/2004. Due to the size of the event and its proximity to the SEAL array, records from most stations are clipped.
Example 3: This example shows the P phase arrival from a magnitude 7.1 event near Mindanao (5.26N, 123.37 E) which occurred at 12.23 on 05/02/2005.
