Seismology in the IPY: The POLNET project

Workshop: pre-AGU 2006

 

Overview

This workshop will focus on the seismological aspects of the POLENET IPY project and will discuss the scientific motivation and deployment strategies for IPY passive seismic instrumentation. Attendance is open to anyone working in science or science-support connected with seismology in the Arctic or Antarctic. This includes those with an interest in data from high-latitude seismic stations.

The workshop will take place from 07:30 on 10 December 2006

Venue and final programme information will be circulated by e-mail to participants. The format will be one of keynote talks followed by extended discussion. Topics include:

1) NSF status and advice

2) Polar regions and large scale tomography

3) Polar observations and core structure

4) Scientific motivation and recent results from passive seismic deployments

5) Glacial signals and seismicity

6) Instrumentation in polar regions

 

There will also be opportunitites for the planning and coordination of
