Joshua P. Knight
This is the work homepage for Joshua P. Knight. I am employed as a student under-graduate intern at the Research School of Earth Science at ANU. I am currently studying a B.Sc at the Australian National University, majoring in geomathematics.
What is Geomathematics?
"Hence, it appears that Earth scientists have not been able to take advantage of modern optimization methods developed in the computational sciences." Dr S. Sommacal Thesis 2004
Geomathematics is the study of applied and computational maths in respect to geological applications. Geology is any scientiffic investagation of the Earth, which is naturally based upon the physical and pure sciences. As far as course work goes, it requires taking standad empirical geology topics - such as geochemistry/petrology, geophysics etc. - as well as relevant physical sciences - physcial/inorganic chemistry, newtonian phsyics - and standard computational/applied mathematics courses and useful computer science topics relevant to high peformance modern scientiffic computing.
Current Research Work
Currently I am developing a computational program by Dr Silvano Sommacal, in his PhD thesis. It is a mathematicaly new approach to the Gibb's free energy minimisation problem.
Future Plans
I am planning to complete B.Sc with Honours at the ANU. After which I am likely to pursue postgraduate coursework study overseas (China) and then pursue a PhD.
